Bermondsey, Camberwell, Deptford, and Southwark lie in the great bend of the river Thames opposite the Tower of London, an area which was extensively damaged during World War II. It has now been virtually rebuilt and is changed out of all recognition.
This programme examines the response of a huge working community to changes as profound and disturbing to old ways as any that have taken place elsewhere in the United Kingdom.
