Great Lives

on BBC Radio 4 FM

Sir Paul Nurse, the biologist who won the Nobel Prize for his work on cancer cells, nominates Erasmus Darwin, the grandfather of Charles, for this week's discussion. Although largely forgotten today, the elder Darwin was a prolific inventor, was the foremost poet of his day, and came up with a theory of evolution decades before his grandson. Presented by Humphrey Carpenter, with Darwin's biographer, Desmond King-Hele.
