Into the Headless Valley
Narrated by Andrew Faulds
This is the story of a 400-mile river journey into the wilds of Canada to explore the legend of a sombre valley where, since the early days of this century, a succession of prospectors and explorers have met their deaths.
The members of the expedition are almost as colourful as the legend they are exploring. Their leader is a hyphenated baronet, Captain Sir Ranulph Twisleton -Wykeham-Fiennes, professional explorer; and the party includes Police Constable Ben Usher , lifeboatman and life-saver from Bridlington, Yorkshire.
Yet this is only the easy start to their adventures: in next week's World About Us they venture ' Through the Gates of Hell,' the more dangerous second half of their journey.
Here was the untamed wilderness. Immeasurable canyons gouged the landscape. It was breathtaking ... our senses were utterly engulfed. This was Nature at her most majestic.
