The 14th year of the Masters brings together the top 16 players in the world. They will be competing for prize money of E225,000, with E56,000 going to the winner.
Two matches are played today, the first between
WILLIE THORNE ranked 11, and renowned for his high breaks; and JOE JOHNSON ranked 5, the 1986 World Champion. The second sees the 1987 Masters
Champion DENNIS TAYLOR (8) against MIKE HALLETT (16) who is making his debut in the event.
