by Jane Austen
Adapted for television in six weekly instalments by Cedric Wallis
[Starring] Alan Badel
with Phyllis Neilson-Terry, Marian Spencer, Jane Downs

Mrs. Bennet's matrimonial plans for her daughters are considerably dashed. Elizabeth has declined an offer of marriage from Mr. Collins, a young clergyman, who is heir to the Longbourne estate; and because of this refusal he has turned to Charlotte Lucas who is more than ready to accept him. And her plans for Jane and Mr. Bingley are frustrated; for he and his friends suddenly leave Netherfield for an indefinite stay in London. Elizabeth's unfavourable impression of Mr. Darcy deepens on hearing of his harsh treatment of that charming Mr. Wickham.

(Vivienne Martin is appearing in "For Amusement Only" at the Apollo Theatre, London; Alan Badel appears by permission of Furndel Productions, Ltd.)
