Profits from Poison

on BBC Two England

A plane sprays pesticide on a banana plantation - and the Filipinos working on it. A
Thai farmer sprays without protective clothing - he collapses in a fit and is rushed to hospital. Another must abandon his farm - the pests have become resistant to insecticides. Profits from Poison shows that while pesticides have led to bigger harvests, they have not helped the Asian farmer.
Will new ways of controlling pests free the farmer from pesticide dependency? This documentary looks at the alternatives now being developed, and asks why they are not being implemented faster. Produced and directed by JAMIE HARTZELL
