II Pirata
Bellini's first major operatic success, written in 1827, is a hot-headed Romantic tale of politics and love in 13th-century Sicily. Count Gaultiero, defeated by his rival Ernesto, has been driven into exile, where he takes to the life of a marauding pirate. Meanwhile, his lover Imogene has been forced to marry Ernesto, and the scene is set for Gaultiero's desperate attempt to win her back.
