Everybody's Revolution: The Car, the Plane and Us

on BBC Two England

Since the second world war an explosion has taken place in Britain. The traffic on our roads has grown by five times and the number of passengers passing through our airports has multiplied by 50. This sudden expansion affects us all whether we like it or not. Tonight's special report examines the implications.
Introduced by Hugh Scully

The car and the aeroplane: these two are special. When a future historian comes to write about life in Britain during the second half of the 20th century he will find that these two familiar vehicles have had a more radical influence on our lives than any other of the innovations which we call progress. So we are going to compile a sort of television notebook to help him, while most of the visual evidence is still around.
