Europe: a Natural History

on BBC Two England

2/4. Ice Ages. Over the past two million years, Europe has been swept by waves of extreme cold. Ice sheets 2km thick once reached as far south as London and Berlin, enabling mammoths to roam the North Sea and lions and hippos to rove what is now Trafalgar Square. Then, at the end of the last great ice age, our forebears set foot on the continent. Sean Pertwee narrates.
