In this dramatic and exotic adventure set in the Amazon rainforest, the son of an American engineer is kidnapped by a tribe of Indians known as the "invisible people". His father searches for him for ten years, eventually finding a very changed young man adopted by a tribe with a mystical relationship with nature. But their survival is threatened by "civilised" man's continual destruction of the rainforest.
Based on the true story of a Peruvian engineer whose son was taken by a band of Indians in the 1960s, John Boorman 's own son, Charley, plays the young boy kidnapped by the "invisible people".
