Horizon: The Future - Made in Japan?

Giant computers that can think like human beings; fusion power reactors producing boundless energy and mini space shuttles bustling around space colonies. These are all part of the Japanese Government's dream for a future they aim to dominate.
To get them there, they're educating the next generation of Japanese with' an efficiency approaching the programming of computers.

The West has already seen one industry after another seriously threatened by Japanese competition. Are they now going to do for the crucial technologies of tomorrow what they've already done for cars and. calculators? Or is there a flaw in the machine?

Horizon examines Japan's attempts to be number one in the 90s and asks - could they be finally overreaching themselves?
