by James Joyce
Dramatised by Jeremy Paul
Dublin 1912, and young Eveline's life is hard looking after her strict father. But it is eased somewhat with the arrival of Frank, a former sailor on a short holiday from Buenos Aires. He offers her a chance to escape, but the prospect of telling her father terrifies her.
"Just how much can be achieved by simplicity and sheer atmospheric authenticity was demonstrated last night by Jeremy Paul 's adaptation of a James Joyce story... the play produced thirty minutes of unalloyed pleasure with Sheelagh Cullen making Eveline's divided loyalty seem genuinely moving."
