All Change in Umtata?
Umtata is the tin-roofed capital of a nation that will be born the day after tomorrow - the Transkei. It's the first of the ' homelands ' - the territories that the white South African government are giving over to black rule. Its birth is being greeted with international indifference, because most nations see the Transkei as little more than a commercial for apartheid - a country that will be independent in name only. But what about the Transkeians themselves? Who are they and what do they think?
Jack Pizzey has been amongst them, observing their life, hearing their music (the hit musical Ipi Tombi comes from their main tribe, the Xhosa) and listening to their views.
