About half of the programmes shown to schools during term time are on science or mathematics. Today Out of School provides two contrasting programmes, both providing in distinctive ways a contribution to the child's awareness of science in the environment.

1.46 Discovering Science: The Water Surface
A series specially designed to help non-specialist teachers by providing the core of a first-year science course in secondary schools.
Water has severe limitations as a cleanser for it is a remarkable fact that there are many things which it cannot effectively wet.

2.6 Indoors and Out: Man and the Land: Green Forests
A science series for primary schools.
More than half of Britain was once covered by forests; today the figure is one-twentieth. Of the remaining woodlands that of the New Forest is one of the most important.
