I Love 1979

on BBC Two England

In the last of the repeated series focusing on the seventies, Bo Derek takes a look back at the year that saw her shoot to fame in the film 10. The oft-unclothed actress was rivalled in the sex-symbol stakes by Catherine Bach, better known as Daisy Duke in the hit US television series The Dukes of Hazzard, while other pop-culture success stories included teen heart-throb Leif Garrett , the off-the-wall martial-arts television series Monkey, UK synth-pop supremo Gary Numan and the movie Quadrophenia, whose storyline was based on the songs contained in the Who's album of the same name. The must-have toy for girls was the Holly Hobbie doll, and the fashion world saw the advent of stretch designer jeans and crimped hair.
