On Independence Day we pay a tribute to the American painter Georgia O'Keeffe. Though long recognised as a major figure on her own side of the Atlantic she is less well-known in Britain.
She is now 92 years old and lives in the desert of New Mexico, where she made her home after the death in 1946 of her husband, pioneer photographer and art gallery owner, Alfred Stieglitz.
This American film gives an opportunity to experience the powerful imagery of her art - the New York skyscrapers, the giant flowers, and the rocks, bones and deserts of New Mexico where the film was made - and to meet an extraordinary and charming personality.
