The Saturday Thriller: Roadhouse

on BBC One London

Feature films with suspense, danger, excitement.
Starring Richard Widmark, Ida Lupino, Cornel Wilde, Celeste Holm

A Chicago entertainer causes trouble at the roadhouse when she reveals the owner's true nature.
This film saw Richard Widmark breaking away from the underworld roles that made him famous. But with that mean look of his Widmark could hardly switch completely from 'heavy' roles - and in Roadhouse he has a split personality. Co-starring Ida Lupino proved equally adept at comedy or straight roles during her acting career; today she is best known as one of America's leading directors.
