In his own lifetime VelSzquez (1599-1660) became known as 'the painter of Kings and King of Painters '. For tonight's programme his finest work was specially photographed where it hangs today in the unrivalled collection at the Prado Museum, Madrid, in the National Gallery, London, and in the National Gallery of Scotland.
