Public Eye

on BBC Two England

Hostage to Fortune. As security becomes more sophisticated, thieves are increasingly taking employees hostage as a way of gaining access to highly protected buildings. Peter Marshall investigates this worrying trend and looks at the measures being taken to counter the threat to staff working in banks, building societies and other vulnerable businesses. "The banks recognise that staff are in the front line against crime and they're taking measures to counter the problem," he says. The programme hears from victims of hostage kidnapping, including a travel agency manager who was taken at gunpoint and told his girlfriend would suffer if he didn't hand over the keys to his shop.
