Glasgow, 1867: Charles Cameron , a brilliant young medical student, lies dying of consumption. He is visited by his friend Dr Marshall who tries to persuade Cameron to protect his failing health. Fate has decreed, however, that Marshall will see Cameron's spirit flourish again in two different personalities.
