When two 11-year-old boys were tried last year for the murder of James Bulger, it was easy for people to blame their parents and their upbringing. But criminals don't always come from bad families. Some come from ordinary, caring environments and yet society treats the families like criminals too.
Four women - including Sue Venables, whose son was found guilty of the murder of James Bulger - try to describe how it feels to have a son who is a murderer or a sex offender.
One desolate woman whose son is serving life for murder says: "It's a little like a death loss, but they don't bury them." Another explains that she stood by her boy because "if I don't stick with him, he'll be a worse monster when he's released.
