Images of War: 2: Ronnie Noble

on BBC Two England

The Cameramen 1939-45
A series of six programmes
Images and memories of World War II recalled by the cameramen and illustrated by their film.
For the six years of war all rivalry between the newsreel companies was forgotten. Film from any source was pooled, and shared to keep the British cinemagoers fed with news from the front.
Ronnie Noble was a young cameraman with Universal News. The story of his war is like a boy's adventure book. He filmed the fighting in France, Syria and the Western Desert. He was taken prisoner, escaped, joined the French Resistance and finished the war filming in the Far East.
