For the past seven years Giscard d'Estaing has been President ot France. It is an office which combines the glamour of monarchy with more executive power than an American president.
Next month France goes to the polls to decide whether to give Giscard a further seven years. Will the country's problems persuade the French to reject him? Or are they still afraid to choose the Left alternative? Richard Lindley reports for Newsweek.
