6/6. Frankton's Shadows. In 1942, Royal Marines paddled canoes 75 miles into enemy territory to put mines on German ships in Bordeaux - an event known as Operation Frankton. Ten Marines set out, but only two survived. Now, the truth is revealed in documents about the mission made famous in the film The Cockleshell Heroes - uncovering a tale of confusion and inter-departmental rivalry.
