Private Passions

on BBC Radio 3

Today, Michael Berkeley talks to Amanda Holden, librettist, translator and founding editor of the Viking Opera Guide. She has recently provided a new translation of Madam Butterfly for Raymond Gubbay's spectacular Royal Albert Hall production, and the libretto for Mark-Anthony Turnage's new opera The Silver Tassie for English National Opera. Her musical choices range from chamber music by Mozart, Schumann and Debussy to John Adams's Violin Concerto and Ethel Merman singing an Irving Berlin classic.
