Terry Gilliam visits the South Bank to look at work in progress on the museum and its often elaborate and spectacular exhibits, and introduces
20th-Century Treasure Trove Tonight's film, from a script by the distinguished documentary maker Robert Vas. explores the mysteries of collective memory with extracts from the vast holdings of the National Film Archive, which range from Walt Disney to Fritz Lang ,
L 'Age d'or to Brief Encounter. For 63 years the archive has been rescuing and storing away films and videotapes in vaults and bunkers across the south of England. This updated version of an acclaimed programme also examines the intricate procedures of classification and looks at the recent arrival of a new conservation centre endowed by J. Paul Getty III , who has also supported the Museum of the Moving Image.
