(CHARLIE PARKER ) Charlie Parker was one of the major innovators of modern jazz. He was also an alcoholic and a heroin addict. When he died in 1955 his age was estimated at between 50 and 60. He was, in fact, 34 years old.
A few days after his death, the words 'Bird Lives' were found scrawled on a wall. The process of turning Parker into a myth had begun.
