E. M. Forster was born 100 years ago today. From 1924. when Forster's best-known novel A Passage to India appeared. until his death in 1970. he wrote no major
work of fiction. Yet his reputation as novelist,
= polemicist and critic seemed to grow over the years. Only recently has his importance and influence been questioned.
