The Junk Adventure of the Tai Ki
At the most distant point from land anywhere in the world - in the North Pacific - a Chinese river junk met a disaster.
Tai Ki had been built in Hong Kong to an ancient pattern to try to prove that the Chinese of 2,000 years ago could have reached South America.
From the beginning there had been problems. Would the traditional methods and equipment used in its construction stand up to such an epic voyage? Delays during building took departure into the typhoon season and experts advised against it. The international crew of eight were mostly inexperienced. Could they ever work as a team?
They almost made it, but disaster was to come from an unexpected source.
