Val is in her mid-thirties and a victim of the loneliness of suburbia. She is still reasonably attractive but her youth is seeping away. Her marriage to Reg has reached stalemate and when she meets a young aspiring pop singer she sees an opportunity of recapturing a little of her past when she used to sing around the Midland clubs. But it is not to work out that way.
