The Royal Institution, London Annual Christmas Lectures to Young People
by Professor George Porter
As we study the tiny world of atoms and single-celled animals we discover chemical and biological changes which occur in less than a millionth of a second. We operate some of the Royal Institution's new 'Time Machines' which, using lasers, can see substances living for only a thousandth of a millionth of a second.
