The Prague Spring Festival, which was instituted in 1946, lasts for three weeks. The programmes are international in character, though Czech music is naturally well represented. This year Mozart's music was also to the fore, not only because of the bicentenary celebrations but because both Don Giovanni and the Prague Symphony were first performed in that city.
