In recent times STEVE DAVIS , TERRY GRIFFITHS and ALEX HIGGINS have dominated the championship, in fact no other player has appeared in the final since 1980. Griffiths has appeared in two finals, Higgins and Davis, the holder, in four. This season Griffiths and Higgins have not found their form, while DENNIS TAYLOR and CLIFF THORBURN have, with Davis , won most of the frames and the money so far.
