Sir Mortimer

on BBC Two England

Digging Up People
The first of two Chronicle films which take us on a journey through the extraordinary and eventful life of Sir Mortimer Wheeler
SIR MORTIMER gained the highest honours in three different roles-as archaeologist, soldier and popular television personality. In 1973 he took MAGNUS MAGNUSSON back to the landmarks in the first half of his life; from the Battle of Passchendaele in 1917 to the Battle of Maiden Castle, fought and lost by a British tribe almost two thousand years ago.
