Young Composer Workshop

on BBC Radio 3

David Pyatt (horn), BBC Philharmonic. conductor Martyn Brabbins
Sarah Walker introduces the work of three young composers from the final concert of this year's Young Musician of the Year composers' workshop. The BBC Philharmonic spent a week in February preparing 12 new pieces of chamber and orchestral music selected from over a hundred entries, working closely throughout with the composers and their workshop leaders. The workshop culminated in two concerts conducted by Martyn Brabbins. Today's programme features a previous Young Musician of the Year winner, David Pyatt , in Tansy Davies 's demanding Horn Concerto, framed by two works that take their inspiration from turbulent periods in Scottish history.
Stephen Maniam The Seven Men of Moidart
Tansy Davies Concerto for horn and chamber orchestra
Stuart Macrae Boreraig
The second part of the concert can be heard next Saturday.
