A series of films about real lives - now
Greenfinches
'We're in a war 24 hours a day,' says the Lance Corporal. She's a Greenfinch - one of the 700 women of the Ulster
Defence Regiment. These frontline women in uniform are a little-known part of Northern Ireland's security forces. Tonight, for the first time, three of them tell their stories.
In combat clothing, on patrol day and night, they're hard to tell apart from male soldiers. Off-duty, at home, these women are at their most vulnerable to attack; one Greenfinch is married to an English Catholic, another relies on her doberman pinscher for protection.
Now they tell their personal reasons for joining the Regiment, and reveal the active part they play in troubled Ulster.
