2nd House 2nd Run: Wife for Life?

on BBC Two England

Tonight's edition of 2nd House explores in verse, drama, cartoon, documentary and song how our views of wedlock have been shifting in recent times from the Victorian belief in a life-long union entailing absolute fidelity.

Including two short plays:

1: The Mayor of Casterbridge
A chapter from Thomas Hardy's novel adapted by Peter Prince

2: Comrades
One act from August Strindberg's play adapted by Jeremy Brooks

Also appearing are the poets James Simmons, Alan Jackson, Roger McGough and Adrian Henri with Elaine Stritch reading poems by Dorothy Parker, plus interviews with married couples, with Daily Mirror columnist Marjorie Proops and Dr Prudence Tunnadine of the Institute of Psycho-Sexual Medicine.
