On stage at Jollees Showclub for the next eight days, the best 32 players in the world will contest for a first prize of £9,000 and the most coveted title of World Professional Darts Champion.
Today, reigning World Champion, KEITH DELLER , starts the defence of his title against No 1 in the USA, NICKY VIRACHKUL , the man he beat last year in the first round. On paper, World No 1 ERIC BRISTOW has what seems to be a relatively easy first round tie against Danish No 1 FINN JENSEN , but he has experienced upsets before in these first round matches.
Also starting today are PETER LOCKE , fast becoming No 1 in Wales, and No 8 seed,BOBBY GEORGE.
