Mines, Minerals and Men
Britain's mineral miners are back in business. New mining techniques and the soaring price of metals have brought about a real revival of Britain's mineral mining industry, once the largest and richest in the world. Today the targets are tin, lead, copper, fluorspar, potash. Soon it could be tungsten, nickel and even uranium.
As the pressure to mine our own raw materials increases, what sort of impact is this revival going to have on our economy and our countryside? Can we learn to live with the mineral men?
