A Schubertiad
Given before an invited audience in the Organ Room, Glyndebourne. Schubertiad was the name of the musical evenings Franz Schubert spent with friends. Tonight is the first of the series to mark the 150th anniversary of the Austrian composer's death. The programme includes two of Schubert's settings of Shakespeare, ' The Shepherd on the Rock', the first movement of the Arpeggione Sonata, 'Death and the Maiden' as song and as string quartet movement, and the Marche Militaire in D and Fantasy in F minor for piano duet.
