on BBC Home Service Basic

View in Radio Times

A play by Donald Carswell with Robert Farquharson as Prince Charles Edward Stuart
Jean Cadell as Clementina Wajkinshaw and Denis Arundell as Cardinal York
Produced by W. Farquharson Small
No longer Bonnie Prince Charlie , hero of romance, but ' dishevelled, haggard, and doubtfully sober', Prince Charles Edward Stuart , Count of Albany, is seen in Rome discussing the rebellion that followed the disaster at Culloden in 1746. He maintains that there would have been a different ending to the battle had his way been followed. Finally, a messenger arrives at the Chancellery, announcing the death of James III , and the lolling, stupefied Prince is proclaimed Charles the Third.
