Vicky had persuaded Kate to go with her to Paris but when she came to take Kate to the airport she found her unconscious, having taken an overdose of sleeping pills. Kate was rushed to hospital, dangerously ill, and she kept asking for David. Gwen told him he should go to Kate and that their marriage was ruined anyway. He went to the hospital but was not allowed to see her.
