Panorama: Summit

on BBC One London

The Venice Economic Summit, which took place last week, was attended by world leaders from seven countries. Firmly penned in the press centre nearly 3,000 journalists tried to find out what was going on. Patrolling the conference centre and the city were more than 10,000 armed men from Italy's three national police forces, with their guard boats, frogmen and helicopters. Out in the Adriatic an American aircraft carrier kept President Carter in touch with the world. Was there anything of substance going on or was it a public relations exercise for the people back home?

Panorama film cameras bring the inside story of the Summit.
