Race for Life - A frlca 's Great
Migration
Every year, overa million and a half wildebeest risk their lives to take part in a mass migration. Film-makerHugo Van Lawick fulfilled his life's ambition by spending a year with these great herds on their circular migration around Tanzania's Serengeti National Park. Few wildebeest die of old age. Lions, hyenas and hunting dogs track the migrating animals, and awaitingthe great herds in the rivers that dissect the plains are monstrous crocodiles. Van Lawick 's film captures the drama as the wildebeest struggle to survive. Series producer John Sparks
