My Homeland

on BBC Two England

A portrait of Hungary from Exile by the distinguished documentary film-maker, Robert Vas (1931-1978). For the past 700 years -years of oppression and struggle for freedom - the poet in Hungary has been the teacher, the spiritual leader of his Nation.
With passion and courage he has searched for the essence of the country - for the predicament of its people. His words ignited the fuse of two revolutions - 1848 and 1956 - both crushed.
This anthology of Hungarian poetry, largely unknown in the west, is a reflection of the spirit, the history and the people of that country.
