Placido Domingo and a host of operatic stars celebrate the 50th anniversary of the first performance given by the Covent Garden Opera Company in a special live concert introduced by James Naughtie from London's Royal Opera House.
The event also marks the silver jubilee of Domingo's debut performance at the same venue.
The world-renowned tenor is joined for the occasion by sopranos Angela Gheorghiu, Galina Gorchakova and Leontina Vaduva, mezzo-soprano Susan Graham, tenor Roberto Alagna, and baritones Dwayne Croft and James Morris. Among the composers represented in a programme of operatic highlights are Verdi, Gounod, Massenet and Charpentier. The Orchestra of the Royal Opera House is conducted by Edward Downes.
