Globe Theatre: A Toast to Melba

on BBC Two England

starring Robyn Nevin with the voice of Rosalind Dunbar The colourful, and often sensational story of Helen Porter Mit. chell, an Australian who grew up to be one of the greatest sopranos of all time - Dame Nellie Melba.
This ' vaudeville' biography traces Melba's rise to fame and fortune from her tomboyish girlhood tc the glittering salons of Europe, the scandals of her private life and the many ' final' comebacks of old age.
The diva's own voice is heard in two of the arias, Ah fors' e lui' from La Traviata and Mimi's farewell from La Bohème.
