BBC Singers, Stephen Betteridge
(piano), conductor Stephen Cleobury A celebration in words and music of the great figures connected with Manchester's musical life in the 1890s. In this period, the city welcomed composers and performers such as Elgar,
Paderewski and Grieg, amateur music-making flourished with glee clubs, choral festivals and adventurous concert programmes, and figures like Sir Charles Halle were putting the city on the musical map in ways which would last right up to the present day.
