To give Americans a more abundant life was the stated aim of President Franklin Roosevelt when he put through the development programmes of the New Deal. In this last programme of the series Alistair Cooke travels from New England to Hawaii in considering how far the United States has lived up to this and other of its earlier aspirations, and how its citizens are coping with the problems of modern living.
