The Human Side: Where are the Yeomen?

on BBC Two England

It's a way of life you see. You get used to it and there you are. You just keep hoping that things will get better.
Things are not likely to get better for the small farmer. Every week one hundred small dairy farmers alone go out of business. And as they go, the traditional patchwork of the countryside gives way to large-scale farms like factories or to council houses and commuters.
The Human Side visits Bethersden in Kent and looks at the problems of the departing farmer and the arriving commuter.
Introduced by Bill Wedderburn.
